How long between two times

Two times in, the length out. A period that ends earlier than it starts is treated as running past midnight.

How the overnight case works

When the end time is earlier than the start, the period is read as crossing midnight: 22:00 to 06:00 is eight hours, not minus sixteen. That is almost always what someone means by a night shift, so it is the default rather than an option.

These are clock times, not moments on a date, so a night that contains a daylight saving change is counted as the clock reads it. The night the clocks go back has twenty-five hours; a shift logged 22:00 to 06:00 that night was nine hours of work, and this page will say eight.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does it handle night shifts?
Yes, automatically. If the end is earlier than the start, the period is counted as running past midnight.
Why a decimal total?
Because timesheets and invoices usually want 7.5 rather than 7 h 30 min. Both are shown.
Can I subtract a break?
Yes, per period. The break is taken off that row before anything is added up.
Does it know about daylight saving?
No, and deliberately. These are clock readings without a date, so the page cannot tell which night you mean. On the two nights a year when clocks change, add or subtract the hour yourself.
